Introduction
Keeping a vehicle's starter system in good condition is important in ensuring the engine starts easily and reliably. The Starter System Test function on the INNOVA BA201 Battery Tester Tablet is designed to evaluate the status of the starter system when operating by measuring the cranking voltage. This evaluation provides helpful information about the starter's status, making it easier to identify problems before a critical fault or failure occurs. This article explains how to use the Starter System Test function on the Battery Tester Tablet.
The Starter System Test function is designed to accurately evaluate your vehicle’s starter system performance by determining its status through an assessment of the starter’s cranking voltage.

Procedure
NOTE: Inspect the battery terminals for sulfate deposits and other corrosion. Use a brush to thoroughly clean the terminals before connecting the Battery Tester Tablet.
Warning: Do not perform this test on Smart Alternator, Hybrid, or Electric vehicles.
Step 1: From the Home Screen, select Starter System Test. The screen displays the test conditions required before starting the test. Confirm that all conditions are met, then select Continue.
NOTE:
If the battery is a wet cell (maintenance-type), check the electrolyte level (the level of the mixture inside the battery that transmits electricity between the terminals of the battery). Make sure the electrolyte is at the required level for the battery type to obtain the most accurate test results.
Make sure the connection between the test clamps and the battery terminals are good to ensure test results are correct.

If a low battery voltage condition is detected (< 11.8V), the screen displays requiring you to charge the battery before proceeding with the test. Deliberately starting the engine with a low battery for an extended period can lead to deep discharge, potentially damaging the battery beyond recovery.
Step 2: The screen displays the requirement to start the engine within 30 seconds while performing the test. Start the vehicle’s engine when prompted.

Step 3: An “instructional” screen displays requiring you to turn the engine and all vehicle accessories OFF. Select Continue to complete the test.

Step 4: The Starter System result screen displays.
Select Report to submit the test report to RSPRO® App via Wi-Fi network.
Select Complete, the battery tester returns to the Home Screen.

Test Result Explanation
There are four result types when you perform the Starter System Test:
Cranking Normal: Indicates starter operation is normal.
Charge Battery: Indicates cranking voltage is low, and the battery is not fully charged.
Low Voltage: Indicates cranking voltage is low.
No Start: Indicates the Battery Tester Tablet does not detect the engine starting signal as expected.
