Introduction
To ensure technicians can accurately diagnose charging system faults, the Charging System Analysis feature provides comprehensive testing of the alternator or generator. It measures output voltage and ripple voltage under various usage scenarios - including with or without electrical loads, at both high and idle RPM conditions - allowing for a straightforward, evidence-based diagnostic process.

Procedure
Step 1: From Home Screen, select the Charging System Analysis function then select OK button.

Step 2: The screen displays the test conditions required; follows the conditions and select the Continue button to start the test.
NOTE: Make sure the connection between the test clamps and the battery terminals is good so that test results are correct.
NOTE: If the battery voltage is less than 11.8 V, the message “Charge the battery and retest” displays, indicating that the battery must be charged before performing the test.

Step 3: Follow the on-screen instructions to perform the test. Select Continue, as necessary, to proceed to the next step.

Step 4: When the process is complete, the Charging System Analysis report screen displays the values of the testing and the Repair Tips.
Select Report to submit the test report to RSPRO® App via Wi-Fi network.
Select Complete, the battery tester returns to the Home Screen.

There are 5 result types of report: Good, Output too high, Output too low, Excessive ripple, and No output
Good: Indicates charging voltage is within specification.
Output too high: Indicates charging voltage exceeds the acceptable limit.
Output too low: Indicates the alternator is not providing sufficient current to charge the battery and power the vehicle’s electrical system.
Excessive ripple: Indicates an excessive amount of AC ripple voltage has been detected.
No output: Indicates no alternator output is detected.
NOTE: The test results can be submitted and viewed on the RSPRO® app if the Battery Tester Module has been paired already.
Conclusion
In summary, the Charging System Analysis function eliminates diagnostic guesswork. By systematically evaluating output and ripple voltage across varying load and RPM conditions, it delivers precise, evidence-based data professionals need to definitively verify alternator health and execute reliable repairs.
